The art of Vivian Edwards and The Farmhouse Gallery has moved just a couple of doors down the street to 124 E Main Street (#A & #B) in Walhalla, South Carolina. 

 When you walk in the door, you can still smell the earthy fragrances from the former vendor, Thistle Ridge Soap (now located in Abington, Virginia).

Before the weather started to get too hot for this Canadian girl, my husband Jason and I took a Sunday walk on the half mile nature trail at Station Cove Falls in Walhalla, SC. 

It is a well-groomed path through lush green vegetation of the Appalachian forests all the way to the 60 foot waterfalls.  Several families were walking the trails, playing in the creek below the falls, and some even climbed to the top of the falls and shouted down to us lesser thrill seekers below.

The shade of the trees helped protect us from the sun and the spray off the falls kept our skin cool for the hike back out.  This is considered an easy trail and would be great for a walk with young children.

Palmetto Sweets & Company LLC is a lovely bakery that recently opened at 115 East Main Street in Walhalla, South Carolina.

Owner, Kay Roach-Owens and her hard-working staff wake up very early every morning to bake delicious cakes, scones, bread, rolls and so much more.  (I recommend the cinnamon pecan roll.)

The bakery is a much larger space than it looks like from outside and there’s room to seat 40-50 people comfortably.  The tables are covered with white linen table cloths and blue accents.

The walls and shelving are decorated with items that may be purchased such as floral arrangements, wreaths, pottery and pictures.

Fiddlers Cove Homes and Lots in Tamassee, South Carolina

Fiddlers Cove is a mountain lake subdivision with breath-taking views in Tamassee, South Carolina.  The lake itself is 35 acres and is great for fishing.  There are views of the Blue Ridge Mountains from almost everywhere!  Covenants and Restrictions are in place to protect the property owners however Fiddlers Cove has one of the more lenient set of rules in the area.  For example, minimum square footage need only be 1400 square feet.  Boats with up to 35 hp motors are allowed on the lake.  Non-property owners are allowed to fish in Fiddler Cove with written permission.  Association dues are minimal.  Various structures have been p...

Do you own a strange pet?  We have a squirrel!

Do you own a strange pet?  My husband Jason has a pet squirrel.  We believe Henry VIII was born circa 2002.  Jason and his father had been putting a new roof on a garage and when they pulled up the old tin, a nest of squirrels took off running in all directions, but Henry didn't get away.  My husband is not good with dates but he had this pet long before I met him in 2004.  If there's a section in the Guinness Book of World Records for oldest live squirrel, this one probably belongs in it.

Sunset Ridge is a subdivision off of Radisson Road in Seneca, South Carolina.  There are 34 lots in this gated community and many of them have gorgeous views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Sunset Ridge is situated in a rural setting but is within a five minute drive to Walmart, Walgreen's, Fatz Café and the USPS store at The Booksmith.  The Home Owners' Association dues are $600 per year.  Construction of homes, driveways and outbuildings must be approved by the Architectural Committee.

Jamaica Relief Ministries Thrift Store is located in Sandy Springs, SC near Anderson.  When you walk in the door of the store, you’ll see posters displaying photos of smiling Jamaican children getting help from the faith-based ministers from North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. 

The Yoders from Westminster, SC moved to Jamaica many years ago to assist children after they saw the poverty and the destruction caused by Hurricane Gilbert.  The Yoders have moved back to Upstate SC but continue to help the Jamaican children from afar.
